Obafemi Awolowo said, "tear the mask." What's that supposed to mean?
Below are the words of the sage:

"After rain comes sunshine; After darkness comes the glorious dawn. There is no sorrow without its alloy of joy; there is no joy without its admixture of sorrow. Behind the ugly terrible mask of misfortune lies the beautiful soothing countenance of prosperity. So, tear the mask!"
 - My Early Life, 1968.
(From http://www.obafemiawolowofoundation.org/awo_quotations.php)

TEAR THE MASK
Do I really have to do that. Maybe I don't need to do so.
But it's not really about the mask on my face. It's the mask of challenges, discouragement, terror, bad reports, experience that are discouraging, discriminatipn, opposition and so on.
The mask ony face is a different thing. I may not tear that or not yet. The mask of unpleasant circumstances, however, I must tear so that I can see the pleasantness of and in life.

Isn't life pleasant?
Tear the mask and see.
