As I opened my eyes the thought ran through me to review Jesus and Barabbas as the Holy Spirit explained it some years ago.  Then His word came to me as I lay upon my bed. “There is a reason why I created man” His real intention for creating man? What could that be? I sat up on the bed, searched for my wrist watch and it was 4:43 am this 15th day of May 2017.
It is, therefore, important for us to study some verses in the book of Genesis 1 and 2.
IN Nasarawa Local Government ‘Corpers’ Lodge there are many Corps member there. They came from different places. They are all different peoples. Two of them are from Benue State. One of these two is from the same tribe with my roommate. That’s the reason why he always visits us and my roommate often visits his place. They are friends and close.
In Room 2 at the Orientation Camp at Kusala Dam in Karaye LG there were Yoruba graduates, Hausa graduates and Igbo graduates as well as one Balyesa graduate.  We Yorubas automatically became friends and we were close. After we left the camp I stayed in a fellowship’s lodge. One of my roommates later moved into the lodge near us as provided by his Place of Primary Assignment. I was happy. When he saw me he was extremely glad. “Haa, ‘pastor,” he said, “ha, Oluwa o se o. maa ti e ri eni foju jo.” Let me explain that to mean “now I see someone I look like or someone of my kind.” We talked, laughed and played together. We went out together, bought same things and ate same foods. We were of same kind. When I travelled without his knowledge he was worried and complained that I left it alone. He always wanted to see me because we were of a kind out of many kinds. We (Lekan and Kuye) share likeness.
Now let us study some verses in the book of Genesis.
2:5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.
That there was not a man to till the ground here shows that man has a function. That function or essence is tilling the ground. Was that the reason why God created man? It’s a reason but not the reason!
2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
This verse 7 has been explained several times in several ways by the servants of God. God formed man. He designed man. Man is his workmanship! We are in Ephesians 2:8-10 ordained for something other than tilling the ground. If a father assigns a portion like the Eastern part of the garden unto his son does that make the whole or real essence of the son tilling the garden? Certainly not.
2:8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
The garden is Eastern of Eden!
2:9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
God simply put the man in a beautiful place that is also like man’s kitchen of varieties.
2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
It’s just necessary for the man to take care of the garden full of good trees of good fruits good for food. He has to dress it.
1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Here is the supposed reason seen- Dominion! Did God create man for the purpose of dominion?
“After we have created them in our likeness, then we can make them rulers over everything.
After we have made man in our image then he can have dominion over all other things.
Let us make man in our likeness, so they may have dominion over everything.”
The main reason is not the dominion but they will necessarily have dominion over everything.
If dominion is what man lost in the Garden of Eden then Dominion would be all or the major thing Jesus would have restored unto us.
1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Here, we MUST note the repetition. It’s an indication of man’s essence.
1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Now we can see that what man has in verse 26 or what he is let to have is actually a blessing. “and let them have dominion” means that the Godhead decided to give man or bless man with the dominion. And God blessed man. Dominion is God’s Blessing to man, in Jesus we now rule over all, powers and principalities included (then they were not, only all thing on earth were in man’s control). Jesus’ restoration increased our dominion. That is, Jesus’s restoration caused us to have increased blessing just as all Job lost were in double regained in the last chapter of the book.
There are times we think that the king was drunk and that’s why he wanted to show Vashti off. He was glad. The King was full of merriment. The king was very proud of his beautiful queen who befits him and who belongs to him. The King was mindful of Vashti.
How shall a potter make a beautiful pot and at the exhibition stage the pot thinks the potter is insane so the pot decides not to be seen with the potter. Oh Vashti, off with you!
8:5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
The king has dressed the queen even glorious than the chiefs.
8:6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
Dominion is given to him- as a blessing. If a man makes his wife a ruler in one of his companies does that mean the essence of the wife is the dominion? We know it is certainly not.
Now let us know that before showing the workmanship or the beautiful queen to the public there has been something more precious than the blessing of dominion. Vashti had been in relationship with the king. She had been communication and having wonderful moments with the king. She is, of all his wives and workers or angels, the most important and the closest.
Psalm 8:4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
That is the jealousy of the one who used to be precious to God. Satan and other creatures now wondered what is the essence of man. God, why are you mindful of this ‘thing’ just as the angel said the holy thing to be born shall be called Jesus they wondered ‘what’ not ‘who’ is man. God would visit man. He likes to be with man. It’s what his soul delights- to be with his beautiful queen or workmanship. He wants to have man close to Himself. That is what why we now believe that He dwells in us as His temple. Being with man satisfies God than being in the brick temple; so, our body, the latter temple is glorious than the former. Man means much to God.
Genesis 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
They know the voice of God. It’s not the first time they would hear it. They had a meeting place and that’s why they knew where to hide. So when God got to the place He usually meet His beloved workmanship who beforetime would have been eagerly waiting for God like a man waiting for his lover He didn’t see them. “No, I didn’t meet them there. Then I called.”
3:9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
I know all things. It’s just strange that they could be getting far from me instead of running to meet me. I called them. I wanted to meet them. They were created in my image. I cherished them. I love man so much that I would always visit him. I gave him glory. I visit in my glory. It’s a glorious meeting. But there is a breakup. Remember how I said if a man opens the door we will come in and sup with him? That’s what I always desired- to be close with man. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Man is like My child. The way I love the Israelites is typical of how I cherished man.
How does God cherish man? Well, there’s a man who is very rich. His chief of staff who is very loyal to him is also kind to him. The man almost willed all his companies to his chief of staff but eventually his wife gave birth to a child after his concubine had given birth to a child. Then God said, Abraham, I want your son, the one you love, for clarity sake, I mean Isaac. Sacrifice him to me. Pastor Tayo Oni said, “Abraham trusts God who gave him the child.” I have heard many said that it’s easy for Abraham because he had another son only Sarah would feel the real pain. That’s quite correct. But it’s about love. Abraham loved Isaac. The same was God loves His only begotten son. Abraham has been close to God that he foreshadowed what God had already planned to do- to sacrifice his only begotten and beloved son.
In the book of Genesis no one among the servants could reason with Abraham on the way. They could have murmured. But the son asked his father, “dad, where is the lamb for the sacrifice.” The father replied happily and fatherly- intimately. God wants us to freely talk to Him. That’s why after man broke up with God He still created a way that we might come to the throne of mercy. God is saying that His intent is that man should be very close to Him.
Seek ye first the kingdom of God. In that kingdom there is success there is prosperity there is the will of God. It’s the presence of God. But while we are to seek first that kingdom, that kingdom can also come to us. So, Jesus taught us to pray, “Thy Kingdom come” to earth as God would come to the garden so that His will can be done on earth. His will is tranquillity for man.
At 5:00 am I asked, “God, what else do you want me to say or us to know and my Father said, “I always look forward to the cool of day (moment of rest and attentiveness) to the meeting with Adam.” But Adam was no longer eager.
3:10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
Before he became naked he wouldn’t hide. But now he answers me from afar and would not come closer because I am full of glory and he no longer has the glory I gave him. He cannot come closer. My glory is dreadful and consuming- it repels filthiness.

Often times when I was on my way to meeting Deborah to see her face it would be as if all other things were nothing. Only her thought would fill my mind. My heart would yearn for her. I know her voice, her face, her smile and her laughter. They all delight my soul. I love them all about me. If for any reason we couldn’t meet I would feel pained and her mother would know that. When two lovers agreed to meet and one didn’t show up or appear or stayed afar, barred from getting closer, unable, unworthy to come close it is always painful. That is why letters and messages and phone calls from a lover are never boring or tiring.
We are sons and children- princes and princesses, chosen, loved. He loved us first. We are created in His image. We are His pride. He couldn’t afford to do without meeting us the way I couldn’t afford to miss Deborah. When sister Deborah now stays afar, hidden, avoiding my voice (that’s not the focus now), I always wished there’s something I could do to bring her back. But there was something God did- He planned and sent His willing begotten son to do RECONCILIATION. IT’s a glorious REUNION with God in Christ! 5:12 am (back to bed)
The main purpose of creating man is to have a relationship, a communion with man. “He’s the only one in our image that we could talk to and to have Him close to us my Son could abandon His glory then and My Spirit is still on earth now. Do you feel loved and cherished by God? Are you afar? I made a way to get you closer because communion with you is important to me. I who made a help meet for Adam originally made Adam in my own image and likeness though not as help meet but as in my likeness.
